Information for SEND school visits

Our interactive and hands-on schools programme is accessible to students with a wide range of needs. We are committed to offering inclusive learning opportunities, and will work with you to ensure we tailor your visit to meet the needs of your group. We do everything we can to provide a welcoming inclusive experience for all of our visiting guests.

Please get in touch with us if you would like to book a session by emailing museumbookings@hackney.gov.uk. Our Schools Officer can talk to you prior to your visit so that we can ensure you and the members of your group have the best possible experience during your visit with us.

Before your visit

Visual story

If members of your group would find a visual story helpful, you can view our visual story.

Quiet times

If your class would prefer to visit at a quieter time, we are able to provide school sessions on Mondays, when the museum is closed to the general public. Please note, due to general maintenance work which takes place in the museum on certain Mondays, we may not always be able to accommodate this request.

Accessibility

We are on the ground floor of the Technology and Learning Building. There is level access into the building and throughout the museum. We have an accessible toilet at the museum. The closest Changing Places toilets are in Haggerston Park, Hackney Marshes Centre or the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. More information is available on the Changing Places website.

During your visit

Chill-out space

We have a learning room which can be used by any pupils who need some space. An adult must remain in the room with any pupils. The learning room will have alternative activities for the pupils to do, as well as sensory toys.

Please note that you can sometimes hear banging noises from the gym upstairs while in the learning room. We are able to offer ear defenders for pupils who would like them.
