Community Displays and Projects

Would your community group like to work with us on a project or display at Hackney Museum?

If your community has a local story to share and is interested in working with Hackney Museum to bring this to life then we would love to hear your ideas. Please get in touch by emailing us at and we will arrange to have an informal chat with you.

If after this chat you decide that you’d like to put forward a proposal for a temporary display at Hackney Museum then we will help you write this. We will then put forward your idea to our community advisory panel who help us to decide on our temporary exhibition programme.

Please note that any ideas need to meet our exhibition policy guidelines. These state that:

Exhibitions must complement, enhance or develop existing knowledge about the social history and / or communities of the area now referred to as the London Borough of Hackney.

All exhibitions must have one of the following strong connections with the London Borough of Hackney:

  • Relates to people, organisations or communities of interest who live, work or learn in the Borough (either today or in the past)
  • Relates to the history of ethnic, cultural or identity groups currently settled / once lived in the Borough.

Exhibition proposals that do not meet the above criteria, and / or where no strong connection to the London Borough of Hackney is demonstrated, will not be considered. Hackney Museum is a community history museum for the London Borough of Hackney. It is not a gallery and proposals to exhibit artists’ works will not be considered.
